Community Members,
On behalf of the NWR 7 Board of Education and the school administration and staff we want to give you an update on the work being done by our school. Those of you who have children who are students in our school are already aware of the tremendous effort underway and we want to take this opportunity to share with the broader community.
Our priority has been and remains the safety and health of our students and their families. Accordingly we closed school as of Friday 13. On Friday March 20 we launched our distance learning program. This program engages each students with the teachers and other staff who have been working with them through the year. The goal of this instruction is to support the continued education and learning of all students to the best of our ability. This transition requires effort, dedication and creativity which is being demonstrated every day by our staff, our students and their families. We are very pleased with the initial rollout.
In addition to maintaining the educational process our school continues to provide lunches and breakfasts to-go through our partner EdAdvance. Pearson School in Winsted is the distribution site for these meals. Questions about this Program may be directed to Becky Terrell at 860-567-0863.
Our school community has begun several outreach efforts as we seek to support everyone through this difficult time. One of our students has invited students and families to create cards, picture, poems and small paintings to be sent to residents at our local nursing homes. She provided suggestions and addresses. As we are all aware visits to those residents Is greatly restricted and our student wanted to find a way to brighten someone else’s day.
Our biology department has loaned their ultraviolet sanitizing cabinets to the local ambulance companies to help keep them safe. The department also donated masks, gloves and goggles to these companies.
Our High School Principal and Special Education Dept. Chair created kits for the making of masks to help first responders protect the patients they transport. These kits were available for pick up at school and were gone within an hour!
One of our parents, who serves as a mentor for our robotics team,has borrowed our 3-d printers to create the plastic shields that first responders use to keep themselves safe.
Our students and their families continue to amaze us and we trust you are proud of them as well. We believe that this sense of community is how we will get through this difficult time. We hope that you are all well and staying home and staying safe.
