Town Hall will be closed on Monday, May 26th, in observance of Memorial Day. Curbside trash and recycling pickup will be pushed back one day next week.

Last week, Pisgah Mountain Road was re-opened to motor vehicles and will remain open until seasonal closure next winter. The re-opening  follows creation of a committee last fall to discuss best practices and next steps for management of this historic and scenic dirt road—and to protect it from heavy rainfall.

Earlier this spring, the Inland Wetlands Commission approved a Department of Public Works (DPW) application recommended by the committee to improve drainage through repair and replacement of five culverts—and creation of natural stone-lined swales. As part of this initiative, our DPW budget now includes a designated line item for maintenance of our approximately five miles of dirt roads in town.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day will be Saturday, June 20th, at the Falls Village Public Works Garage (100 Railroad St, Falls Village). This semi-annual event, organized and run by the Northwest Hills Council of Governments, is moving to online registration this year.

Attached, please find a QR code, with which you can use to register via Eventbrite on your mobile phone. You will not need a ticket or QR code at the event. Staff on site will be able to check registrants in from a list including your first and last name.

Also attached is a flyer discussing items eligible for disposal at Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day. Karen Odell at 860.379.3359, ext. 201, or kodell@colebrooktownhall.org will be able to register those unable to do so via the QR code. The deadline to contact Karen is end-of-day on Wednesday, June 17th.

June is Dog License Month. All dogs over the age of six months are required by Connecticut law to be licensed. For your convenience, beginning June 1st dog license renewal will be available online on the town website at (www.townofcolebrook.org/town-clerk/).

The online service is available for dogs previously licensed in Colebrook with a current rabies certificate on file and will include a one-dollar processing fee. In-person licensing is available at the Town Clerk’s office during regular business hours. To renew by mail, please include a check and a self-addressed, stamped, return envelope. Please make checks payable to the “Colebrook Town Clerk.” Please contact the Town Clerk’s office (860) 379-3359, extension 203, with any questions.

Bear-resistant curbside rollout carts are available to Colebrook residents for $102/year, and are billed annually in advance when you enroll. Learn more about how these carts work here. Contact USA Recycling at 800.998.2984 to reserve one.

Breakfast is served every Tuesday at the Community & Senior Center from 8-9:15 a.m. for $6 (no reservation needed). Lunch is every Thursday at noon for $7, with advance registration requested by 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

Approximately 40 youth participated in the Colebrook Rec Board’s annual fishing derby held this past weekend, and 24 fish were caught! Congratulations to first place winner Jade Martin with an 11 1/2” catch; second place winner Emma Farrell with her 11 ¼” inch fish; and third place winner Mike Arquett with an 11” catch. Thank you to the Rec Board for organizing and hosting—and to the Colebrook Lions for cooking and providing egg sandwiches.

The last day of the school year at Colebrook Consolidated School is Friday, June 19th.

The Town Pond will open for the season on Saturday, June 20th.

On Wednesday, May 27th, the Norbrook Cardinals host the New Hartford Rockies at 5:30 p.m. at Colebrook Field. Go Cards!

Upcoming events

On Saturday, June 6th, from 10-11:30 a.m., the Colebrook Conservation Commission and the US Army Corps of Engineers are hosting a 1-mile walk around the Beaver Pond Trail. On Sunday, June 7th, at 3 p.m. the Colebrook Historical Society will host an Open House to kick off its 2026 summer exhibit, “Honoring Colebrook Veterans.” Refreshments will be served at the open house. You may also view the exhibit and/or tour Seymour Inn when the Historical Society opens on Saturdays and Sundays (11 a.m.-1 p.m.) beginning on Saturday, June 13th, and through the end of summer.
