Greetings from Colebrook Town Hall.

Town Hall will be closed on Monday, May 26th, in observance of Memorial Day. Curbside trash and recycling pickup will be pushed back one day next week.

This week, we finished chip sealing seven roads in Colebrook. This is part of an ongoing, annual maintenance program to care for our paved roads through crack sealing, chip-sealing and repaving on a regular schedule.

Colebrook has approximately 41 miles of roads, comprised of roughly 34.5 miles paved and 6.4 miles unpaved. For the past several years, the cost to repave and maintain roads in town has been funded by Small Town Economic Assistance grants from the state. For paving work this summer (after the new fiscal year begins on July 1st), we applied for approximately $412,000 to repave the Center Firehouse parking lot, and 2.5 miles of Deer Hill, Gaylord, Millbrook and Phelps Roads. We are following budget discussions in Hartford closely as we await information on how we fare with this year’s grant request.

On Tuesday, June 3rd, at 6 p.m. a public informational meeting will be held in the upstairs meeting room at Town Hall to discuss whether to continue prohibiting vehicle access on Pisgah Mountain Road. We’ll be joined by a representative from the T2 Center, a UCONN-based organization that provides technical assistance to local municipalities for road and bridge maintenance. Several years ago, the T2 Center studied Pisgah Mountain Road and recommended restricting vehicle access and maintaining the approximately 1-mile dirt road as a recreational trail.

As noted last week, the Colebrook Preservation Society (CPS) is focusing on making the interior space of the 1792 landmark Colebrook Store more sound, functional, and welcoming. Learn more here. As the non-profit organization that owns the Colebrook Store building to behalf of the community, the Preservation Society is seeking financial support to achieve the restoration goal. If you would like to support this project, please send your tax-deductible donation to CPS, P.O. Box 24, Colebrook, CT 06021.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day will be held on Saturday, June 21st, at the Falls Village Public Works Garage (100 Railroad St.) from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. You must have a ticket to participate. Contact Karen at Town Hall (kodell@colebrooktownhall.org). You can find a list of eligible/ineligible items here.

If you are interested in participating in our proposed pilot food scrap recycling program, slated to kick off this summer, and have not already signed up, please do so here. Learn more about the pilot program here, and more about the benefits of food scrap recycling here. When we’re up and running later this summer, we’ll have collection points at Town Hall and the Forge Fire House.

June is Dog License Month. All dogs over the age of six months are required by Connecticut law to be licensed. For your convenience, beginning June 1st dog license renewal will be available online on the town website at (https://link.edgepilot.com/s/af4ee572/Q4E1_NPws0y2z1UPcznfUQ?u=https://www.townofcolebrook.org/town-clerk/). This service is available for dogs previously licensed in Colebrook with a current rabies certificate on file, and will include a one-dollar processing fee. In-person licensing is available at the Town Clerk’s office during regular business hours. To renew by mail, please include a check and a self-addressed, stamped, return envelope. Please make checks payable to the “Colebrook Town Clerk.” Please contact the Town Clerk’s office (860) 379-3359, extension 203, with any questions.
