Greetings from Colebrook Town Hall.
Progress continues on the Colebrook Consolidated School (CCS) HVAC project. Duct work is currently being installed for our two new Dedicated Outdoor Air System (DOAS) units. A DOAS unit is a specialized HVAC system designed to provide fresh, conditioned outdoor air to a building or space independent of the main heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system.
With completion of the duct work, the Town/School Building Committee will consider a proposal to install attic insulation prior to the start of school. This has been budgeted for in our town Capital Improvement Program, and will help the school conserve energy and save on heating and cooling costs.
New electrical panels have been installed in the CCS boiler room as part of enhancing our electrical capabilities to a three-phase system. And, a new concrete slab raising the floor of the boiler room by 2 feet will help address moisture issues there.
eQuality Valuation Services LLC, the firm hired to assist the town in the completion of our 2025 Revaluation, will be taking photographs and doing inspections of residential and commercial buildings tomorrow (August 8th), as needed. The vehicle will have eQuality Valuation Services magnets.
During the recently concluded August 1st tax collection period, Wind Colebrook South (WCS), as part of our 20-year tax stabilization agreement, made their third scheduled payment since the agreement was finalized last December. Since 12/31, payments totaling approximately $440,000 have been made to the town, and WCS is current on its tax obligations.
Chimney repair work was completed last week on the historic Seymour Inn, home of the Colebrook Historical Society (CHS). The exterior of the building is maintained by the town and the interior by CHS. Tours are available every Saturday and Sunday during the summer between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
We served 42 at breakfast earlier this week at the Community & Senior Center. Breakfast is served every Tuesday from 8-9:15 a.m. Price is $6. Lunch is Thursday at noon. Price is $7, with Tuesday 1 p.m. registration requested. Bingo is every Tuesday at 1 p.m. We have an active group of volunteer Bingo callers and are looking to add to our group. If you’d like to volunteer, please contact me at bbremer@colebrooktownhall.org.
The 80th Colebrook Labor Day Fair will be held on Saturday, August 30th. If you are interested in volunteering—or being a vendor—please contact Karen Odell at kodell@colebrooktownhall.org.
The Fair Committee is pleased to announce that Cow Plop is returning to the Colebrook fair this year. Annabell the cow will have 80 squares to land a plop. Purchase tickets and read the rules here (link is on left side of the Weebly page), and at Facebook.com/colebrookctfair. Cow Plop is sponsored by Pinney Stables and benefits Colebrook Recreation.
Make plans now to participate in the Colebrook Fair Cardboard Regatta. For years, this has been a highlight of the Fair. The Regatta features homemade cardboard boats with judges selecting winners for each race, and awards for categories including the “Funky-est” boat and best costume. Entry forms, cardboard and duct tape are available at Town Hall. Registration will take place from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, August 30th, at the Town Pond. Festivities begin at 3:30 p.m. If you choose not to set sail, please come down to watch. The festivities never disappoint.
The Community & Senior Center is seeking Labor Day Fair volunteers for help with set-up on Friday, August 29th, from 3-5 p.m. and take-down at the Fair’s conclusion on Saturday. To volunteer, please reach out to seniordirector@colebrooktownhall.org.
An important annual fundraiser for the Community & Senior Center is their Basket Raffle at the Colebrook Fair. If you would like to contribute a basket, please contact the Center at 860.738.9521. Baskets in need of wrapping should be dropped off by August 26th and baskets already wrapped by August 28th.
