Greetings from Colebrook Town Hall.

Our Annual Town Meeting will be held on Monday, October 20th, at 8 p.m. in the second floor meeting room at Colebrook Town Hall. That night, we’ll be electing members and alternates for the following: Planning & Zoning Commission; Zoning Board of Appeals; Recreation Board; and Historic District Commission.

Municipal elections will be held on Tuesday, November 4th, to fill positions on the following: Board of Selectmen; Board of Finance; Board of Education; and Board of Assessment Appeals. Also on the ballot are the following elected positions: Town Clerk; Town Treasurer; Tax Collector; and Constables.

Early voting at Town Hall for the November municipal elections will be available beginning Monday, October 20th. Details to follow.

With recent state approval of our STEAP grant funds, we have now scheduled dates for paving on Deer Hill, Gaylord, Millbrook and Phelps Roads, and at the Center Firehouse parking lot. Weather permitting, this will take place the week of October 27th. More details will follow as paving week approaches.

Our pilot food scrap recycling initiative is underway. Bear-resistant collection stations are in place at Town Hall and the Forge Firehouse. The collection stations will be open 24/7.

The town is currently accepting applications for energy assistance. Please contact Karen Odell to set up an appointment, or with any questions, at kodell@colebrooktownhall.org.

Next month, the town will be collaborating with the Nature Conservancy on a Community Resilience Building workshop to address the potential impact of unpredictable and severe weather on our community. Our goal is to identify and prioritize the steps necessary to reduce risk and improve resilience across Colebrook, including community resilience planning and hazard mitigation efforts.

There will be a hazardous waste collection day on Saturday, November 8th, at the Torrington Water Pollution Control Facility in Harwinton. Details to follow in the coming weeks.

Frontier Communications is currently going door-to-door, coincident with their recent upgrade in service to the area, to make residents aware of their service offering.

The Colebrook Associates Food Pantry, located in the vestibule of the Community & Senior Center, needs breakfast cereal and baked goods. Donations may be left at the pantry or in the collection bin in the post office.
