An important annual fundraiser for the Community & Senior Center is their Basket Raffle at the Colebrook Fair. If you would like to contribute a basket, please contact Center Co-Directors Serena Brainard or Kate Roux at 860.738.9521. They ask that baskets in need of wrapping be dropped off by August 26th, and baskets already wrapped be dropped off by August 28th.
Breakfast is available at the Community & Senior Center every Tuesday morning from 8-9:15 a.m. for $6. No registration required. Lunch is available every Thursday at noon for $7 (with advance registration required by 1 p.m. on Tuesday).
Last week, as part of ongoing renovations, soffit vents were installed in the roof of Colebrook Consolidated School. Soffit vents are crucial in maintaining proper attic ventilation, which helps prevent heat buildup, moisture issues, and potential roof damage.
On a related note, Colebrook School Custodian Dennis Twofoot is stepping down after 5+ years of keeping our school building clean, safe and running smoothly for students and staff. He will be greatly missed, and we wish him all the best in his next chapter, as he prepares to move out of the area. With his departure, the school is looking to fill this part-time custodian/maintenance position. Call USA Recycling at 860.379.1662 by Thursday of each week for Friday morning pickup.
Electronic recycling can be disposed of at the Town Garage, 43 Sandy Brook Road, in the container to the right of the garage. Leave your items outside the storage unit to be packaged and handled.

As the non-profit organization that owns the store building on behalf of the community, the Colebrook Preservation Society is seeking financial support to achieve its restoration goal. The Foundation for Norfolk Living (FNL) will hold an informational webinar on July 22nd for potential homeowners interested in learning more about buying a house in Norfolk’s new affordable housing community, Haystack Woods. FNL expects that the homes, which are now under construction, will be ready for sale this fall. Upcoming events
On Friday, July 25th, the Colebrook Historical Society kicks off its Friday Night Gatherings series. It all begins with refreshments at the Seymour Inn at 7 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m. shifts to the Town Hall second floor meeting room for the evening’s guest speaker. Local historian and author Peter C. Vermilyea will discuss, “Litchfield County and the Civil War.” Future speakers include noted WFSB meteorologist Scot Haney on September 5th, and a presentation on “Witches in Connecticut” on October 17th. There is no cost to attend, and everyone is welcome.
Through October 26th, the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Mass., is featuring an exhibit entitled, “I SPY: Walter Wick’s Hidden Wonders<www.nrm.org/>.” Wick, author of the “I Spy” and “Can you see what I see” book series, was a one-time resident of Colebrook.
