Tonight (Thursday, February 19th) Colebrook Consolidated School Superintendent Bob Gilbert will present the Board of Education’s proposed FY 26/27 operating budget to the Board of Finance at 6 p.m. at Colebrook Town Hall (second floor meeting room).
The Board of Selectmen will meet on Monday, February 23rd, to finalize its proposed town operating budget, and will present that budget to the Board of Finance next Thursday, February 26th.
Looking ahead, please make note of the following town budget-related dates (all are in the Colebrook Town Hall second floor meeting room) :
* Wednesday, March 18th, at 7 p.m. – Northwest Regional 7 budget presentation * Thursday, April 9th, at 7 p.m. – Town budget hearing * Tuesday, May 5th, – Referendum on Colebrook and Region 7 budgets
The four budget components we’ll be discussing this spring, and voting on in May, include: 1) the Selectmen’s budget (for town operations); 2) the Board of Ed budget (the investment required to operate our K-6 elementary school); 3) the Northwest Regional 7 budget assessment (our weighted share of the investment for the 7-12 regional middle school/high school operated jointly with Barkhamsted, New Hartford and Norfolk); and 4) our annual town Capital Improvement Program budget.
The road salt shortage across the state has diminished somewhat and our Department of Public Works has begun receiving limited shipments as supplies are being rationed.
Last week, the Community & Senior Center (as part of our ongoing bus trip program) hosted an outing to the New England Air Museum<neam.org/> at Bradley Airport. While there, we received a personally guided tour from Colebrook resident Steve Seiser, who volunteers at the museum. Learn about upcoming trips and other programs in our Community & Senior Center newsletter (subscribe here<www.mycommunityonline.com>), on our website<colebrookseniorcommunitycenter.weebly.com/>, or follow us on facebook<www.facebook.com/ColebrookSeniorandCommunityCenter/>.
Breakfast is available at the Center every Tuesday from 8-9:15 a.m. for $6. Lunch is served every Thursday at noon for $7 (advance registration required for lunch). When Region 7 and Colebrook School are closed due to inclement weather, the Center is also closed. Breakfast is also cancelled when Region 7 and Colebrook School have a delayed opening on Tuesdays, but Bingo is still held at 1 p.m. (on delayed school opening days).
The Colebrook Associates food pantry, located in the vestibule of the Community & Senior Center, is open Monday-Thursday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m.-noon. Donations may be left at the pantry, or in the collection bin in the Post Office.
On Saturday, our Norbrook Coyotes fifth and sixth grade basketball team is hosting Watertown at Botelle Elementary School in Norfolk at 10 a.m. Later that day, at 12:45 p.m., our third and fourth graders travel to Torrington. Go Coyotes!
