At this week’s Board of Selectmen meeting, Town Clerk Debi McKeon updated the Board on the progress of the General Code Ordinance Project. The Board voted to consider an ordinance at the Annual Town Budget Meeting in May to accept the Town of Colebrook Code, as presented.
A Connecticut town’s General Code is the codified set of local ordinances and regulations that govern municipal operations, including zoning, traffic, safety, and public property. These are established under authority from the Connecticut General Statutes which empower municipalities to manage local affairs.
For more information, a copy of the proposed ordinance to be considered at our May Town Meeting is on file in the Town Clerk’s Office. It may be reviewed during regular business hours, or on the town website at www.townofcolebrook.org<www.townofcolebrook.org>. This year’s May Town Meeting will be held on Monday, May 4th, at Colebrook Town Hall.
As winter draws to a close, we are carefully monitoring the weather along with our supplies of salt and sand. Salt shortages across the state (and region) continue. We have a limited amount of salt on hand for any late-season weather developments.
The latest long-range weather forecast from the state is predicting several cold fronts to move across the area over the next couple of weeks. Total rainfall for the next two weeks is expected to range from 1″ – 2″ across the state which is near normal for mid-March.
The Board of Selectmen would like to thank our hard working, four-man Public Works team for their around the clock efforts to keep our roads safe this winter. Looking ahead to next winter, we are anticipating delivery of our new snowplow in the coming weeks. This was funded through our Capital Improvement Program over a two-year period. To mark the occasion, we are collaborating with the students and staff at Colebrook Consolidated School on a contest to choose a name for our new vehicle. The student who provides the winning entry name for our new truck will receive a ride!
As our Public Works focus shifts from snow removal to general road maintenance this spring, we would like to chip seal the remainder of Sandy Brook Road (between the new bridge and Route 8). The scope of our oiling program may be influenced by the recent spike in oil prices, however. We also are making plans to sweep the sand that was used this winter-and are planning for spring tree work along town roads.
