Greetings from Colebrook Town Hall.
Town Hall will be closed next Friday, July 3rd, in observance of Independence Day. Trash pickup is on a normal schedule next week.
Next week, on July 1st, Cathie Norton will officially assume the role of Town Assessor. Cathie, who has been serving as Assistant Assessor, succeeds Dave Dietsch, who has been our Assessor since 2022.
We are also pleased to report that Colebrook resident Regina Caron has accepted the position of Co-Director of the Community & Senior Center. Regina, who started this week, will have responsibility for managing the kitchen and working with volunteers in support of our Tuesday breakfast and Thursday lunch programs. Breakfast is served every Tuesday between 8 and 9:15 a.m. Lunch is available at noon on Thursdays, with advance signup requested. Bingo is held every Tuesday from 1-3 p.m.
Tax bills were mailed last week. The Colebrook Town Pond is open for the season. Lifeguards will be on duty on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. through the end of August. The gates will be open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with no lifeguard on duty.
Colebrook Recreation is once again sponsoring “Popsicle Thursdays” at the Town Pond every Thursday from 4-6 p.m. during July and August. Popsicles and fun will be provided by Colebrook Recreation. No lifeguard on duty. This is not a drop-off event. Children must be accompanied by an adult. See flyer attached.
This summer, the Colebrook Conservation Commission and the Department of Public Works are collaborating to control Japanese knotweed growing along local roads in town. Left unchecked knotweed can quickly take over entire areas and block road signs, guardrails and shoulders, limiting motorist visibility. This spring, the Conservation Commission reached out to local residents to assist them with knotweed patches on properties adjacent to local roads. To learn more, or to volunteer to help the Conservation Commission with knotweed control efforts, contact Commission Chair Joyce Hemingson at jhem1022@gmail.com.
Volunteers are needed for the 81st Colebrook Labor Day Fair, to be held on Saturday, September 5th. If you are interested in volunteering—or participating as vendor—please contact Karen at kodell@colebrooktownhall.org. Cardboard and duct tape for Cardboard Regatta participants is available at Town Hall.
News from Colebrook Town Hall will not be published next week and will resume on July 9th.
