Greetings from Colebrook Town Hall.
Last night, the Colebrook Board of Education appointed Judith Palmer, Ed.D., to succeed Bob Gilbert as part-time Superintendent for Colebrook Consolidated School (CCS), effective January 1st, 2027.
Dr. Palmer joins us from Ed Advance, a Regional Educational Service Center supporting school districts and their communities in Northwest Connecticut. Dr. Palmer lives in Winsted and is well acquainted with CCS, having previously served as Superintendent of Northwestern Regional 7 for 13 years. She is a past President of the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents.
Earlier this week our Registrars of Voters, Sherri Gray and Karen Odell; Town Clerk, Debi McKeon; and Election Moderator, Abby Nemec, tested our voting machines in preparation for the upcoming Democratic primary for Governor and the First District Congressional seat. The primary will be held on Tuesday, August 11th, from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. in the second-floor meeting room at Colebrook Town Hall. Taxes were due July 1st, and are considered late if not paid by Monday, August 3rd (with the Tax Collector’s office open 9 a.m.-1 p.m. that day) and will be subject to interest from the due date. During July, the Tax Collector’s office will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 9 am-noon. Zoning Enforcement Officer Jeremy DeCarli maintains office hours in the Town Hall Land Use office from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. Jeremy is available to answer any questions you may have regarding zoning compliance-and can be reached at 860.379.3359, extension 209, or at zoningofficer@colebrooktownhall.org<mailto:zoningofficer@colebrooktownhall.org>, as needed.
Bulk waste pickup is available every week for items that will not fit in your bin. Please call 860.379.1662 by Thursday of each week for Friday morning pickup. Electronic items and building materials are not accepted for bulk pickup. Electronic items may be left at the Town Garage, outside of the storage unit which sits to the right of the garage.
Breakfast is served at the Community & Senior Center every Tuesday from 8-9:15 a.m. for $6. Lunch is available every Thursday at noon for $7 (advance registration required for lunch). Volunteers are needed for the 81st Colebrook Labor Day Fair, to be held on Saturday, September 5th. Cardboard and duct tape for Cardboard Regatta participants is available at Town Hall.
The Community & Senior Center is also looking for volunteers to support its presence at the Fair, with opportunities to donate food items, pies, raffle baskets, or time. The Colebrook Associates food pantry, located in the vestibule of the Community & Senior Center, is open Monday-Thursday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m.-noon. Donations may be left at the pantry or in the collection bin at the Post Office. Items currently needed include baking mixes, breakfast items and canned fruits and vegetables (excluding corn).
The Colebrook Volunteer Fire Department is looking for new members to join their ranks and help our community. There are many ways to serve, everyone is welcome, and no prior training is needed. For more information, contact Todd Correll at 860.459.0292.

On Saturday, July 25th, from 1-4 p.m. the Colebrook Historical Society is hosting an Antiques Appraisal Day at the Seymour Inn (558 Colebrook Road). Bring your treasures and discover their value as Jay Kohler of West Hill Antiques offers verbal appraisals and answers your questions. Cost is $10 per item, limit of three items per person. The summer series of Sunday evening Vesper Services and Hymn Sings continues this Sunday, July 26th, through Sunday, September 6th, at 7 p.m. at the historic Church in the Wildwood on Route 183 in North Colebrook. Everyone is welcome.
On Friday, July 31st, The Colebrook Historical Society is hosting, “Litchfield County in the American Revolution.” Local Historian Peter Vermilyea will discuss his latest book, which explores the significant role our county played in the war. The event begins with refreshments at the Seymour Inn at 7 p.m. The program will commence in the second-floor meeting room at Town Hall at 7:30 p.m. Learn more on the attached flyer.
