Early voting for the upcoming Democratic primary for Governor and the First District Congressional seat begins Monday, August 3rd, and continues through Sunday, August 9th, in the second-floor meeting room at Town Hall. Learn more about available hours here. No excuse absentee ballots are also available in the Town Clerk’s office during regular Town Hall hours.
The Democratic primary will be held on Tuesday, August 11th, from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. in the second-floor meeting room at Colebrook Town Hall.
Taxes were due July 1st, and are considered late if not paid by next Monday, August 3rd (with the Tax Collector’s office open 9 a.m.-1 p.m. that day) and will be subject to interest from the due date. Planning is in the final stages for the 81st Colebrook Labor Day Fair, to be held on Saturday, September 5th. If you are interested in volunteering—or participating as vendor—please contact Karen at kodell@colebrooktownhall.org. Cardboard and duct tape for Cardboard Regatta participants is available at Town Hall.
The Community & Senior Center is also looking for volunteers to support its presence at the Fair, with opportunities to donate food items, pies, raffle baskets, or time. Breakfast is served at the Community & Senior Center every Tuesday from 8-9:15 a.m. for $6. Lunch is available Thursdays at noon for $7, except when an out-to-lunch event is scheduled (advance registration is required for Thursday lunch). Bingo is held every Tuesday from 1-3 p.m. Stay up to date with programming and events at the Center on Facebook.
The Colebrook Town Pond is open through the end of August, with lifeguards on duty Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. The gates are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with no lifeguard on duty.
The Colebrook Associates food pantry, located in the vestibule of the Community & Senior Center, is open Monday-Thursday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m.-noon. Donations may be left at the pantry or in the collection bin at the Post Office
Things are looking brighter at the Colebrook Post Office (which is owned by the town and leased to the U.S. Postal Service). Since last week, we’ve been upgrading the lighting there to make it more energy efficient. For those of you checking P.O. boxes after hours, the lobby lighting is now on a motion sensor so, while it may appear dark from the street, it will light up upon entry.
The Colebrook Volunteer Fire Department is looking for new members to join their ranks and help our community. There are many ways to serve, everyone is welcome, and no prior training is needed. For more information, contact Todd Correll at 860.459.0292.

Tomorrow (Friday, July 31st) The Colebrook Historical Society is hosting, “Litchfield County in the American Revolution.” Local Historian Peter Vermilyea will discuss his latest book, which explores the significant role our county played in the war. The event begins with refreshments at the Seymour Inn at 7 p.m. The program will commence in the second-floor meeting room at Town Hall at 7:30 p.m. Learn more on the attached flyer.
The summer series of Sunday evening Vesper Services and Hymn Sings continues Sunday evenings through September 6th, at 7 p.m. at the historic Church in the Wildwood on Route 183 in North Colebrook. Everyone is welcome.
The Department of Veterans Affairs is hosting a Veteran Farmers’ Market on Thursday, August 6th, from 3-6 p.m. at their campus in Rocky Hill, Conn. The event features a variety of Veteran Grown and Made vendors along with Veteran-owned food trucks. The 102nd Army Band of the Connecticut National Guard will perform from 5-6 p.m. This free event is open to the public. Learn more on the attached flyer.
