Greetings from Colebrook Town Hall.

Early voting for the November State and Federal elections is available through Sunday, November 1st, at Colebrook Town Hall. Early voting hours are as follows: today, Thursday, October 29th, until 8 p.m.; tomorrow, Friday, October 30th, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, October 31st, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, November 1st, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

As of this afternoon, 158 residents, or approximately 15 percent of registered voters, have voted early here in Colebrook.

On Election Day, Tuesday, November 3rd, polls in the second-floor meeting room at Colebrook Town Hall will be open from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m.

As winter approaches, we are in the process of making a number of infrastructure investments. Earlier this month, we replaced one of our propane boilers here at Town Hall. This week, we began replacing rotted exterior siding here. And, we are soliciting bids for conversion of our heating system at the Center Firehouse from oil to propane during November.

We are also in conversation with Eversource and Lewis Tree Service regarding removal of dead trees threatening power lines on Bunnell Street, and Cobb City, Church Hill and Schoolhouse Roads.

As part of a multi-year maintenance plan for Pisgah Mountain Road, we recently installed metal gates (similar to what’s in place at the Town Pond) at either end of Pisgah Mountain Road. These will be used to close the road for the winter (or when maintenance requires it) and will be more attractive, effective and flexible than the Jersey barriers we’ve been using.

Yesterday, I joined members of our Conservation Commission at a day-long invasive weed workshop on the UCONN campus in Storrs. The Commission has been very active in working with the town and residents to help manage invasives. Learnings from yesterday’s workshop will help to inform future control efforts.

USA Recycling has replaced our food scrap recycling stations with bins that are more user-friendly, with lids much easier to open and close (see photo attached). As noted last week, to date, more than 70 food scrap recycling kits have been distributed. During our first year, we diverted approximately seven tons of food scraps from landfills in Ohio and Pennsylvania, and the purity of our food scrap waste stream has been excellent. If you’d like to participate in our food scrap recycling program, please contact me at bbremer@colebrooktownhall.org.

Earlier today, 18 Kindergarteners and First Graders from Colebrook Consolidated School joined us for a pre-Halloween lunch at the Community & Senior Center. Breakfast is available at the Center every Tuesday from 8-9:15 a.m. for $6. Lunch is served Thursdays at noon for $7 (advance registration required for lunch by 5 p.m. on Monday). Thursday, November 12th, will be our annual luncheon honoring Veterans, and our monthly birthday lunch will be November 19th.

Bingo is held every Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Center. New players are always welcome, and if you’d like to volunteer to call Bingo, please let me know. Stay up to date with programming and events at the Center on Facebook.

The Colebrook Associates food pantry, located in the vestibule of the Community & Senior Center, is open Monday-Thursday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m.-noon. Donations may be left at the pantry or in the collection bin at the Post Office.

The town is accepting applications for energy assistance. Please contact Karen Odell at 860.379.3359, ext. 201, or at kodell@colebrooktownhall.org.

The Colebrook Holiday Fair will be held on Saturday, December 12th, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The day will include vendors, Cookieland, the Holiday Café, and more. During November, you can donate items for the Children’s Shopping Table at the Fair in the collection bin next to the elevator on the lower level of Town Hall. If you’d like to participate as a vendor, contact colebrookholidayfair@gmail.com.

The Colebrook Lions Club is selling poinsettias to support scholarships and charitable outreach. Learn more at the attached flyer. Orders are due by Friday, November 20th.
