Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day will be next Saturday, June 20th, at the Falls Village Public Works Garage (100 Railroad St, Falls Village). Attached, please find a QR code, with which you can use to register via Eventbrite on your mobile phone. You will not need a ticket or QR code at the event. Staff on site will be able to check registrants in from a list including your first and last name. The Colebrook Pond will open for the season beginning on Saturday, June 20th. Lifeguards will be on duty on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. The gates will be open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with no lifeguard on duty.
Last week, Colebrook Consolidated School Superintendent Bob Gilbert announced his intent to retire at the end of the calendar year. Bob’s six-year tenure with us has been marked by consistently high rankings for student performance, as compared with districts across the state. As Superintendent, he oversaw significant investments in the school’s physical plant, including our long-awaited HVAC system. During the next few months, the Board of Ed will consider and develop a succession plan. Closer to his retirement, there will be an opportunity for the community to thank Bob for his service to our town.
The Community & Senior Center is seeking to fill a Co-Director position with responsibility for managing the kitchen, which includes food preparation, shopping and volunteer coordination. While we look to fill the position, breakfasts will continue to be served at the Community & Senior Center on Tuesdays between 8 and 9:15 a.m. Our next Thursday lunch will be June 25th, when we’ll celebrate June birthdays. Also, with temperatures on the rise, please remember that the Community & Senior Center is a designated cooling center and is open Monday through Thursday 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and 8:30 a.m.-noon on Friday.
During June, all dogs over the age of six months are required by Connecticut law to be licensed. In-person licensing is available at the Town Clerk’s office during regular business hours. To renew by mail, please include a check and a self-addressed, stamped, return envelope. Last night, the Colebrook Lions Club honored four Colebrook graduating high school seniors at their annual scholarship dinner. Congratulations to Braylen D’Amore, Roger Hill, Cody Pound and Harmini Thomas.
The Northwest Regional 7 (NWR7) high school graduation will take place on Monday, June 15th, at the Warner Theatre in Torrington, and the 8th grade moving up ceremony will be held on Tuesday, June 16th, at NWR7.
Colebrook Consolidated School’s (CCS) 6th grade promotion ceremony will be held on Thursday, June 18th, at the school. The final day of the school year at CCS is Friday, June 19th.
Upcoming events
This Saturday and Sunday, June 13th and 14th, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., the Colebrook Historical Society<www.colebrookhistoricalsociety.org/> 2026 summer exhibit, “Honoring Colebrook Veterans,” will be available for viewing. The exhibit will be on display, and the Historical open for tours, each weekend throughout the summer.
On Saturday, June 20th, from 9 a.m.-noon, a Monthly Veterans Coffee House will be held at the Winsted VFW Post 296 on Route 8. This is a dedicated space for Veterans to gather and socialize. Coffee, tea, bottled water, and soda, along with donuts, pastries, and cookies will be provided. On Sunday, June 21st, from noon to 3 p.m., the Colebrook Lions Club will host a Father’s Day Fried Dough Fundraiser at Norbrook Farm Brewery. Proceeds fund Colebrook Lions college scholarships, and other worthy local and Lions International charitable causes.
On Sunday, June 28th, at 4 p.m. the Colebrook Land Conservancy<colebrooklandconservancy.org/> will host “Snakes Alive!” in the Colebrook Town Hall second floor meeting room. Please join Jay Kaplan from the Roaring Brook Nature Center for a personal, up-close look at a variety of live snake species (non-venomous). This is a free event and refreshments will be served. On Saturday, July 4th, the Colebrook Associates present their annual July 4th Celebration. As outlined on the attached flyer, festivities kick off with a bike parade (lineup at Colebrook Consolidated School at 10:45 a.m.). The program will begin at 11 a.m. at Colebrook Church and feature Historian Stan Svek, who is back by popular demand. The event will conclude with a free Ice Cream Social on the front lawn of the Colebrook Historical Society.
