Early voting for the upcoming Democratic primary for Governor and the First District Congressional seat continues through Sunday, August 9th, in the second-floor meeting room at Town Hall. No excuse absentee ballots are also available in the Town Clerk’s office from 8:30 a.m. until noon tomorrow, Friday, August 7th, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, August 10th.
The Democratic primary will be held next Tuesday, August 11th, from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. in the second-floor meeting room at Colebrook Town Hall. See also the attached flyer which discusses voting options.
July tax collection is complete. Thank you to Tax Collector Laura Bartlett and everyone who helped make the collection process a smooth one. Notably, following the town-wide referendum in December 2024 that ratified a 20-year tax stabilization agreement with Wind Colebrook South (WCS), payments totaling approximately $689,000 have now been made to the Town, and WCS remains current on its tax obligations.
Later this month, the Capital Improvement Committee will meet to discuss the status of FY 26/27 capital projects. Investments being made this fiscal year include:
* Colebrook Consolidated School: a new phone system; security enhancements; information technology investments; a lavatory upgrade; and ongoing air conditioning expansion * Colebrook Fire Department: Center Firehouse heating system upgrade; a breathing air compressor; high-band radios; turnout gear; and tools and equipment * Department of Public Works: a mini excavator * Community & Senior Center: money towards a new handicapped accessible van * Town Hall: funds for minor building improvements
Planning is in the final stages for the 81st Colebrook Labor Day Fair, to be held on Saturday, September 5th. Cardboard and duct tape for Cardboard Regatta participants is available at Town Hall.
The Community & Senior Center is also looking for volunteers to support its presence at the Fair, with opportunities to donate food items, pies, raffle baskets, or time. Breakfast is served at the Community & Senior Center every Tuesday from 8-9:15 a.m. for $6. Lunch is available Thursdays at noon for $7, except when an out-to-lunch event is scheduled (advance registration is required for lunch). The Colebrook Town Pond is open through the end of August with lifeguards on duty Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. The gates are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with no lifeguard on duty.
The Colebrook Associates food pantry, located in the vestibule of the Community & Senior Center, is open Monday-Thursday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m.-noon. Donations may be left at the pantry or in the collection bin at the Post Office
The Colebrook Volunteer Fire Department is looking for new members to join their ranks and help our community. There are many ways to serve, everyone is welcome, and no prior training is needed. For more information, contact Todd Correll at 860.459.0292.

The summer series of Sunday evening Vesper Services and Hymn Sings continues Sunday evenings through September 6th, at 7 p.m. at the historic Church in the Wildwood on Route 183 in North Colebrook. Everyone is welcome.
On Friday, August 21st, at 7 p.m., the Colebrook Historical Society presents, “Backpacking 8,000 mile on the Triple Crown Trails.” Colebrook Resident Ed Kostak has hiked the Appalachian and Pacific Coast trails. His presentation will focus on his most recent trek, the Continental Divide Trail.
