Greetings from Colebrook Town Hall.
This Saturday, June 6th, from 10-11:30 a.m., the Colebrook Conservation Commission and the US Army Corps of Engineers are hosting a 1-mile walk around the Beaver Pond Trail. The trail is located at the scenic 388-acre Colebrook River Lake property owned and maintained by the US Army Corps of Engineers. Learn more on the attached flyer. The Beaver Pond Walk is part of Connecticut Trails Day-a state-wide celebration of trails of all kinds. Learn more at trailsday.org<trailsday.org/>.
On Sunday, June 7th, at 3 p.m. the Colebrook Historical Society<www.colebrookhistoricalsociety.org/> will host an Open House to kick off its 2026 summer exhibit, “Honoring Colebrook Veterans.” Refreshments will be served at the open house. The Department of Public Works will be spot paving on Millbrook Road on Monday, June 8th, and Tuesday, June 9th. This past week, our paving project at the Center Firehouse was completed with striping of the parking lot there.
June is Dog License Month. All dogs over the age of six months are required by Connecticut law to be licensed. Dog license renewal is available online at the town website at (www.townofcolebrook.org/town-clerk/<(www.townofcolebrook.org/town-clerk/>). The online service is available for dogs previously licensed in Colebrook with a current rabies certificate on file and will include a one-dollar processing fee.
In-person licensing is available at the Town Clerk’s office during regular business hours. To renew by mail, please include a check and a self-addressed, stamped, return envelope. Please make checks payable to the “Colebrook Town Clerk.” Please contact the Town Clerk’s office (860) 379-3359, extension 203, with any questions.
Today was Community & Senior Center Co-Director Sandy Taylor’s last day with us. Sandy is leaving due to a change in her personal circumstances, and sends her best regards to everyone at the Center. We thank her for her service and wish her all the best. Looking ahead, we are initiating a search for candidates for the position, with duties including responsibility for Tuesday breakfasts, Thursday lunches, and support of the Labor Day and Holiday Fairs, in collaboration with our dedicated team of kitchen volunteers, and working closely with Center Co-Director Serena Brainard. The position is part-time (up to 18 hours per week for managing the kitchen, food prep, shopping and volunteer coordination). If you’re interested in learning more, please contact me at bbremer@colebrooktownhall.org<mailto:bbremer@colebrooktownhall.org>.
For those of you participating in our food scrap recycling program, you’ll note that our waste hauler USA Recycling is experimenting with different compost collection bins at Town Hall and the Forge Firehouse to keep the program cost-effective, moving forward. We’ll also continue to work with USA to keep the bins as easy to use as possible, too. Finally, with bears out and about, please remember to lock the bins following each use. And, if you’d like to join our voluntary food scrap recycling program, please let me know.

As the state concludes its management of the Torrington Transfer Station on June 30th, Colebrook is in conversation with neighboring towns through the Northwest Hills Council of Governments to plan for the future of our respective municipal solid waste and recycling programs. This will not impact our weekly curbside pickup here in Colebrook, but will reflect how our waste and recyclables are managed once they leave town.
