Greetings from Colebrook Town Hall.
Earlier this week, town residents voted 82-14 in favor of our proposed Fiscal Year 2026/27 budget.
Approved was a total budget of $7,523,524 (comprised of the Board of Selectmen, Colebrook Consolidated School and Northwestern Regional 7 budget requests), and the proposed Capital Improvement Program budget of $350,000.
Separately, the budget for Northwestern Regional 7 passed in Colebrook by a margin of 81-15-and was passed in all four Region 7 towns.
Thank you to our Registrars of Voters, Sherri Gray and Karen Odell, Town Clerk, Debi McKeon, our poll workers-and everyone who voted.
The night before the referendum, approximately 30 residents attended our Annual Budget Meeting at Town Hall. Those in attendance voted unanimously to accept the Town of Colebrook Code, as presented, the codified set of local ordinances and regulations that govern municipal operations, including zoning, traffic, safety, and public property.
An ordinance to authorize the town to join the Northwest Regional Recovery Authority was also accepted unanimously at the budget meeting. This will enable us to collaborate with other municipalities in the northwest corner to explore options for managing solid waste. Road oiling on Sandy Brook Road between the new bridge and Route 8 has been postponed. Oiling will begin on Monday, May 11th. Expect minor delays. Sweeping will take place later during May, and loose stone will be recycled and re-used in July. Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day is taking place on Saturday, June 20th, at the Falls Village Public Works Garage (100 Railroad St, Falls Village). This semi-annual event, organized and run by the Northwest Hills Council of Governments, is moving to online registration this year.
Attached, please find a QR code, with which you can use to register via Eventbrite on your mobile phone. You will not need a ticket or QR code at the event. Staff on site will be able to check registrants in from a list including your first and last name. Also attached is a flyer discussing items eligible for disposal at Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day. The deadline to contact Karen is end-of-day on Wednesday, June 17th.
The Colebrook Historical Society plans to recognize military veterans from our town as part of this year’s annual exhibit celebrating our nation’s 250th anniversary. Bob Grigg, our late town historian, compiled a list of residents who served our country and were discharged from service. His list concluded in 2005. The Historical Society seeks to identify residents who were discharged from service between 2006 and 2026-and residents who were discharged prior to 2006 and subsequently moved to Colebrook. On Saturday, May 9th, the Colebrook Yard Goats host the New Hartford Rays at 8:30 a.m. at Colebrook Field. The Yard Goats host the New Hartford Nationals at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12th. Come out and support our teams-and check out the menu at our Snack Shack!

On Sunday, May 17th, the Colebrook Recreation Board is sponsoring their annual Kids Fishing Derby. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Lines in the water at 9 a.m. Fishing from 9-11 a.m. This is a free event. Food will be available. Live bait only. Prizes will be awarded.
